1. Alexander Miles , (May 18, 1838 - May 7, 1918) African-American, Inventor
Invention- Made a patent for the design of the electric elevator on October 11, 1887, and improved the method of opening and closing doors of an elevator. He didn’t invent the first elevator but his designs helped improved the problems. Before elevator had to be opened and closed by hand, however the problem was that some people forgot to do so and this caused many accidents. He created the automatic door for the elevator.

1. Robert F. Flemming, Jr, Born 1857 lived till 94years, Mississippi African-American.
The guitar was invented by Robert Flemming, Jr on March 3rd 1886. He wanted a different sound in music and that was what inspired him to create the guitar. There are other string instruments can be found around Africa/Egypt and other parts of the world, and also the very first guitar was made in the 12th century, made from wood and stone. However, it was made for medieval music and looked different. The guitar that we know today is his invention.
When he was still a child, Roberts’s family was free of slavery. And after he freed in his new home, he started inventing things that was found around is house. He also invented the kool-Aid packet.

Trinidad- When African instruments were banned from slaves in 1880, the slaves had to use other materials for instruments such as bamboo, pots and pans, and oil drums(which was the start of the steel pan).
